The morning started with Coffee and Conversation. Our attendance was light but the conversation was excellent. The munchies were excellent also. Leslie Casey brought Carrot Cake, made with carrots from her garden. Dott Miles brought several types of mini cupcakes and cookies. Needless to say we were a very happy bunch of conversationalist. Many topics were hit upon this morning – trails, parks, streaming tv, how to anchor a tv to the wall, the new curtains in the library (consensus was that they looked great!).
Another new addition to the library was admired. The Caseys donated a beautiful “OPEN” flag and put up the holder. Next time the library is open, take a look. Thanks to Jim and Leslie for this nice and functional gift.
The next event on Saturday was Santa Day. This is a project of the Friends of the Library. They collect things all year long, mostly toys and accept donations for this big day.
Everything sells for $00.25, a quarter. The intent is for the children of Sullivan to purchase gifts for family and friends with money they have earned. It gives them independence and helps with self confidence. It is an amazing thing to watch but my favorite this year was a young man who must have shopped for over two hours. His grandfather found a chair and let him go at it. The young man was slow and methodical. He must have looked over every item in the store to find just the right thing. He asked questions and was very intent on getting the right thing. When he was done and had it all wrapped, he and his grandfather loaded it into the car. He then thanked everyone who had helped him. I don’t know his name but his parents should be proud.
The photos with Santa were a lot of fun also. I was taking and printing photos for anyone who wanted it. Must have done close to 30 photos. Each child was different, some could not wait to see Santa, others were more hesitant or down right scared. Some wanted just themselves, others the whole family. A real honor to be Santas helper on a day like this.
And I have put in a reminder for next Saturday, the 12th
The day will start with Coffee and Conversation at the library. Feel free to join anytime between 9AM and 12PM.
The Sullivan Christmas Carol sing will be held in the Town Hall parking lot at 6:00 PM. The lot will have luminaries set up around that area as well as the path to the Congregational Church Fellowship Hall. Refreshments and snacks will be offered in the Hall after the sing.
We really recommend wearing warm clothing and bring a flashlight. We will provide song sheets. Note that parking will be limited as we are using half the parking lot for the sing location. Please park along the road, at the library, or anywhere else you can find a spot. We would like to keep the small amount of parking in the town lot for seniors who want to stay in their car and any singers who may be disabled. Thanks for your consideration.
So next Saturday will be another exciting Sullivan Day.
